Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my website. In these pages I hope to describe something of who I am, so that you can decide if I might be the right counsellor or psychotherapist for you.

About Me

I first had therapy myself in my early twenties. I found it so helpful and inspiring that I decided to train as a counsellor and psychotherapist myself. Over many years I completed a range of training courses, qualifying as Gestalt Psychotherapist in 2014. Other training has included a three-year training in Counselling with Transpersonal perspectives, a Foundation in Art Therapy and an Advanced Certificate in Dreamwork.

Over 30 years on from my own first experience of therapy, I feel just as passionate about the potential for therapy to change people’s lives for the better.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy can support you by giving you space to explore your thoughts and feelings with somebody outside your day-to-day life. As a therapist, I aim to offer you a relationship in which you feel safe to be yourself. I understand that we are all unique, and am genuinely interested to know more about how life is for you. Between us, we can then explore what you most need both in therapy, and in your wider life. This may involve exploring changes you wish to make.

In shorter-term counselling we may work on a particular issue over an agreed number of sessions. We would clarify what you hope to gain from counselling and ensure that we work towards what feels achievable, in the available time. In longer-term work, we notice the emerging themes that recur over time. Sometimes these are the result of experiences from our past.

In both counselling and psychotherapy, we bring awareness to our patterns of behaviour. This may show us where we have more choice than we had realised, in creating a life in which we can thrive.

Dreamwork

Working with night-time dreams can be an effective way to access understanding beyond what we already know about ourselves. I first trained in dreamwork almost 30 years ago. Since then, I have continued to study different approaches to working with dreams (including Jungian and Gestalt). Some of my psychotherapy clients regularly work with dreams and this can deepen the experience of therapy, bringing unexpected insights that lead to healing and change.

Creative Arts Therapies

For some people, finding ways to express their thoughts and feelings creatively, alongside talking, can give a new perspective. This may be mapping things out, such as through mind-maps or timelines. Or, it may be using art materials to explore feelings or ideas in a new way. You don’t have to be “artistic” for this to be of benefit. I can offer guidance around how to begin, and between us we explore what the creative process might be showing us.

  • Why Dream Embers?
I love to work with imagery. Some years ago I had a dream about a fire, burning low. Reflecting on the image, I felt that the still glowing embers could have life breathed back into them, if I gave them attention and care. This is my feeling about therapy. It is about attending to the heart and soul, so that we may be more fully ourselves in the world.
