Hello, and welcome to my website. In these pages I hope to describe something of who I am and how I work so that you can decide if I might be the right therapist for you. You are welcome to phone me or send an email to ask more questions and perhaps talk through your hopes and any concerns you have about counselling, psychotherapy or supervision.
I came to counselling and psychotherapy through having therapy myself in my early 20s. I found it so helpful and inspiring that I began the long process towards becoming a psychotherapist myself. Nearly 30 years on from my first experience of therapy, I feel just as passionate about the potential for therapy to change people’s lives for the better.
I am now a psychotherapist and counsellor working in private practice. I also offer clinical supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and trainees. In addition, I facilitate groups and courses.
Counselling and psychotherapy can support you by giving you the space to explore your thoughts and feelings. This can help you gain more clarity. The following words from the serenity prayer are an inspiration to me:
…grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,Niebuhr
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference”
Therapy can help us find this wisdom within ourselves. There may be things we need to come to terms with and accept, such as difficult events from the past, or limiting factors in our present life. However, there are often changes we can make if we can become clear about who we are and what we really want. As a therapist I will support you to find the answers that are right for you.
In shorter term counselling we may work on a particular issue over an agreed number of sessions. We would clarify what you hope to gain from the counselling work, and ensure that we work towards what feels achievable in the available time.
In longer term work we notice the emerging themes that recur over time. Sometimes these are the result of experiences from our past. In psychotherapy we have the opportunity to bring awareness to our patterns of behaviour, and this gives us more choice. I offer a range of approaches including talking therapy, creative therapies and dreamwork. I would support you in finding the approaches that work best for you.
I am a qualified supervisor offering clinical supervision to counsellors, therapists and trainees. I aim to support you to feel confident and competent in your work with clients.
I have trained in Gestalt, Transpersonal, Person-Centred and Art Therapy approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. I will therefore support you with an awareness of your own modality, while offering perspectives that may add a new dimension to your work if this is useful to you.
As a Gestalt therapist, I am aware that “one size does not fit all”, and will endeavour to work with you to create a supervisory relationship that is both supportive and inspiring. This may include creative interventions such as using imagery or 2-chair work to explore the dynamics arising in your client-work, if you would like to explore this.
I have been studying and working with dreams for 25 years, and I find it to be one of the most transformative and healing approaches to therapy and personal growth. Dreamwork can form part of the therapy for people coming for counselling and psychotherapy. It is also possible to see me purely for one-to-one dreamwork. In addition, I run Dream Circles, which are small groups of people who work together on their dreams.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do we begin?
Please feel free to email or phone to discuss your situation or ask more questions. We can then decide to have an initial session. After that we can discuss whether to commit to a few sessions with the possibility of working longer term if it feels right.
- What is your Professional Status?
I am a qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist with an Advanced Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy. I also have a diploma in Transpersonal Counselling and a Foundation in Art Therapy. In addition a hold an Advanced Specialist Diploma in Clinical Supervision.
I am an accredited member of BACP and abide by their Code of Ethics. I have ongoing clinical supervision, engage in continued professional development and have professional indemnity insurance.
- Where do you work?
Currently, most sessions are online (Skype or Zoom) or by telephone owing to the restrictions of COVID-19. In more usual times, I see clients in person, in a comfortably furnished attic room, above Market Jew Street, Penzance. As soon as possible I hope to see clients in person again. In the meanwhile, most clients find that online counselling is still beneficial. Personally I have been surprised to find that it can still be so effective.
- Why Dream Embers?
I love to work with imagery. Whilst reflecting on therapy and dreamwork, I had an image of a fire, burning low. I knew that this fire could have life breathed back into it, if I gave it attention and care. For me, this is about attending to our heart and soul so that we can be more fully ourselves in the world.
